What do you mean by redundancy?

The Wave2Wave Web Hosting system is built with extensive software and hardware backups. Our Network Operations Center has two separate servers that mirror each other for complete redundancy. In the unlikely event that one of our web servers fails, our backup server will activate, so you will never lose your website connectivity.

Any HTML editor can be used. Dreamweaver or Microsoft Frontpage are the preferred editors of many of our customers.

Notes about coding your website for our server Your website will be hosted on a UNIX server. Please note when creating hyperlinks in your web pages that file names are case sensitive. In addition, the homepage must be named 'index.asp' (not 'index.htm').

Will I need to upgrade my website, as new software versions are available?

What is FTP?

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard Internet protocol. It is the simplest way to exchange files between computers on the Internet regardless of the operating system. FTP servers which allow "anonymous FTP" permit any user, not only users with accounts on the host, to browse the "FTP" archives and download files. Our web server is configured to allow users to upload files to their website only. In order to transfer files, you will be given an account and password. This is the only way you can transfer your web pages to the web server.

Can I use CGI and/or Microsoft FrontPage extensions?

Yes. CGI and Microsoft FrontPage 2000 extensions can be used. The Common Gateway Interface (CGI) is a standard for interfacing external applications with information servers, such as HTTP or web servers. CGI is basically a script that processes data supplied by a web page and sends it to the user.

Do you support e-commerce?

While Wave2Wave doesn't actually offer credit card transaction processing, we do enable e-commerce. Customers wishing to enable e-commerce through their website would add SSL as a feature to their Web Hosting Package. SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encrypts communications between a customer's browser and your website, so the customer can safely transmit credit card information, without it being intercepted in transit.
